Advice before surgery, criteria for a successful surgery

Every treatment of a cosmetic defect, if assessed correctly and thus needed, must always have a positive effect. To reach this objective when treating cosmetic defects, every plastic surgeon should follow and respect some rules and standards:

  • The surgeon should be able to assess the level of the defect and reject those patients who do not need the treatment or whose expectations are not realistic.
  • The surgeon must essentially reject to prefer economic profit to the necessity of treatment, despite an insisting patient.
  • The surgeon should select a standard, possibly the simplest, surgical technique, which does not take long and has the biggest post-operative effect.
  • The surgeon should always prefer conservative but effective surgical technique which reduces the risk of most post-operative complications.
  • The surgeon should approach the surgery with confidence and stabile concentration during the whole treatment; he/she should never overestimate his/her own technical skill and experience.
  • Although all rules of an exact surgery are observed, signs of non-standard healing process can occur very rarely, however they are usually easily reparable.  In these cases the plastic surgeon should perform any correction free of charge and never require the patient to participate financially.
  • It is important for a successful surgery to maintain the natural look of the treated area after the surgery. It means that the look is refreshed and generally beautified, which the people in the vicinity notice however without recognizing the causes of this positive impression.
